Local barrel racer C.J. Vondette currently sits atop the leader board of the Women's Professional Rodeo Association's Divisional Tour barrel racing standings in the Mountain States Circuit of Colorado and Wyoming.
Divisional tour barrel races are held across the two-state region and are open to any interested woman 18 and over.
Another Rifle native, Kim Stagner-Schulze, currently of Elbert, sits in second position in the standings.
Big money-earning wins by Vondette at Gillette, Wyo. and Brighton moved the 21-year-old cowgirl to the top spot in the standings.
Vondette recently grabbed nearly $600 for a sixth place finish at the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Lehi (Utah) Roundup Rodeo on Saturday, June 30, and another hefty paycheck at the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series on Saturday, June 23.
With limited hauling, Vondette is ranked among the nation's top 400 professional barrel racers and rapidly rising, having recently qualified for and competed in the prestigious Greeley Independence Stampede and with Cheyenne Frontier Days on the horizon.
Vondette also ranks among the top 30 barrel racers among the Mountain States Pro Rodeo Circuit standings.
