Rifle Police & Garfield County Sheriff's Departments Cop Shop Report - July 26, 2012

Burglary/criminal mischief/theft: On Wednesday, July 19, Rifle police officers responded to Wamsley Elementary School, 225 E. 30th St. An unknown suspect or suspects broke into the school and caused more than $1,000 in damage to privately owned property inside the school. Police believe the suspects also stole key fobs belonging to Garfield School District Re-2. Crime Stoppers and Rifle police seek information that will lead to the arrest and/or indictment of a suspect or suspects involved in this case. Remain anonymous and earn up to $1,000 by calling 945-0101 or go online to www.garcocrimestoppers.com.Disorderly arrest: Police responded to the 700 block of Taughenbaugh Boulevard on July 11 at 5:48 a.m. for a report of a suspicious man with a firearm inside a hotel. Wesley Selsor, 59, of Rifle, was arrested and taken to jail on suspicion of disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment.Trespass: Police responded to the 1500 block of Railroad Avenue for a report of trespass on July 11 at 10:26 a.m. Carl T. Schroerlucke, 53, was arrested and taken to jail on suspicion of violation of a restraining order by consuming alcohol and trespass.Vandalism: On July 11 at 11:43 a.m., police received a report that a vehicle window had been broken while the vehicle was parked in the 600 block of Park Avenue.Pot smoking: Deputies contacted a suspicious vehicle in the Battlement Mesa area on July 11 at 2:38 a.m. Two men, Victor Isaac Castaneda, 19, of Parachute, and a 17-year-old juvenile, were issued summonses for alleged public consumption of marijuana.Warrant arrest: Deputies contacted a man on Tamarisk Court in Battlement Mesa on July 12 at 1:07 p.m. Derrick Randell Hamn, 20, of Parachute, was arrested for a misdemeanor warrant and taken to jail.Disorderly conduct: Police responded to a report of indecent exposure in the 900 block of Airport Road on July 12 at 5:57 p.m. that involved a man urinating in a parking lot. Officers contacted Ricky Duran, 29, of Rifle, and issued him a summons for disorderly conduct. Theft: On July 12 at 9:24 p.m., police took a report of the theft of a child's toy in the 1000 block of Wamsley Way. Child abuse: On July 12 at 10:10 p.m., police learned of a possible child abuse incident in the 900 block of Wamsley Way. After investigation, Jamie West, 35, of Rifle, was issued a summons for suspicion of child abuse. She apparently did not know the whereabouts of her young child for a long period of time. Traffic arrest: A deputy contacted a vehicle on Airport Road outside Rifle for speeding on July 12 at 7:08 p.m. The driver, Nicholas Brackney, 26, of Englewood, was allegedly found to be driving under restraint. He was arrested and taken to jail.Assault report: Police responded to the area of East Second Street and White River Avenue on July 13 at 5:07 a.m. for a report of a male who had been assaulted and sustained injuries. Under investigation.Warrant arrest: Police contacted Jonathen Danial King, 18, of Rifle, on July 13 at 10:11 a.m. in the 200 block of East 18th Street. King was known to have a Mesa County warrant for obstructing a peace officer. King was arrested and taken to jail.Reckless driving: Police took a report of a hit and run accident in the 400 block of West Second Street on July 13 at 2:20 p.m. A vehicle hit a business and then a parked vehicle before driving away. Under investigation. Attempted burglary: On July 13 at 12:37 a.m., deputies were notified of a criminal mischief and attempted trespass/burglary that occurred on West Battlement Parkway. No suspects.Theft: On July 13 at 5:23 p.m., deputies took a report of boat trailer stolen from the Parachute area. No suspects at this time.Disturbance: Deputies responded to and investigated a disturbance on Colorado Highway 13 outside Rifle on July 14 at 7:02 p.m. Josiah Sissom, 18, of Silt, was issued a summons for criminal mischief, harassment and reckless endangerment and released.DUI: Deputies contacted a vehicle on County Road 227 near Silt on July 14 at 3:28 a.m. for traffic violations. The driver, John Turner, 46, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, a warrant, contributing to a minor, and other traffic-related charges. A juvenile was also summonsed and released for minor in possession and consumption of ethyl alcohol.Theft: Officers took a report of license plates stolen from a vehicle parked near Railroad Avenue and Centennial Parkway on July 14 at 10:53 a.m.Underage drinking: Officers learned of several underage people in a bar in the 100 block of West 3rd Street on July 15 at 12:11 a.m. Under investigation. Driving under revocation: Officers conducted a traffic stop on July 15 at 9:17 a.m. and arrested the driver, Jeffrey Jones, 48, of Rifle, for suspicion of driving under revocation.Domestic violence: Police responded to a report of loud yelling and offensive, profane language in the 1200 block of Clarkson Avenue on July 15 at 10:30 a.m. Officers located a residence where a disturbance was taking place and arrested Lawrence Drake, 50, of Rifle, on suspicion of harassment, disorderly conduct, animal cruelty and domestic violence. He was taken to jail.Domestic violence: Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 700 block of East Avenue on July 15 at 9:32 p.m. and arrested John Kivett, 40, of Rifle, on suspicion of harassment and domestic violence. He was taken to jail. Theft: On July 16 at 6:02 a.m., police received a report that a motorcycle was stolen from the 200 block of West 20th Street. Under investigation.Bond arrest: A deputy responded to a residence on West Main Street in New Castle to continue assisting a citizen on July 16 at 5:43 p.m. While there, Michael Blakeway, 26, of Rifle, was found in violation of a restraining order, was arrested and taken to jail.Alcohol, pot arrests: On July 16 at 9:22 p.m., deputies stopped a car at the intersection of Colorado Highway 13 and U.S. Highway 6 in Rifle after allegedly seeing a passenger smoking marijuana. The passenger, Levi Lamont Nash, 19, of Rifle, was also found to have several warrants for his arrest. Three others in the vehicle, Matthew Ryan Mekis, 19, of Silt; Shelby Paige Fender, 18, of Silt; and Christopher Danielson, 18, of Rifle, were issued citations for minors in possession of alcohol and released. Nash was taken to jail.Traffic arrest: Deputies conducted a traffic stop at mile marker 75 on I-70 outside Parachute on July 17 at 11:16 a.m. The driver, Marco Villasano, 41, of Parachute, was allegedly operating the motor vehicle with a canceled license. He was arrested and taken to jail.Theft: On July 17 at 5:01 p.m., a deputy took a report of the theft of a lawn mower from a home on County Road 233 outside Silt.Dog at large: A deputy responded to a dog running at large on County Road 346 outside Silt on July 17 at 6:20 a.m. The dog's owner, Stephanie Rene Mullett, 33 of Rifle, was issued a summons.Assault: On July 18 at 8:12 a.m., deputies took a report of an alleged sexual assault in the Battlement Mesa area. This case is under investigation and no further details will be released at this time.Criminal mischief: On July 18 at 4:48 a.m., deputies learned of a suspected criminal mischief vandalism incident on West Battlement Parkway. While attempting to talk to two juvenile suspects, 15- and 16-years old, one ran from the deputies. Both were located and issued summons.Reckless driving: Deputies responded to a report of a traffic violation on Black Hawk Trail in Battlement Mesa on July 18 at 2:46 p.m. The driver, Nathaniel James Gouker, 19, of Parachute, was released on a summons for suspected reckless driving.Domestic violence: Deputies learned of a domestic disturbance at 27653 U.S. Highway 6 outside Rifle on July 18 at 2:15 a.m. Richard James Medina, 42, was arrested on suspicion of harassment and domestic violence and taken to jail.Child abuse: Deputies learned of a child that was found along West Battlement Parkway outside Parachute on July 20 at 3:01 p.m. The parent of the child, Yesenia Gonzalez, 25, of Parachute, was issued a summons for suspicion of misdemeanor child abuse.Warrant arrest: A deputy contacted a vehicle on I-70 outside Parachute for speeding on July 21 at 1:20 p.m. The driver, Jose Christian Guarista, 28, was found to have a Mesa County warrant for assault. He was arrested and taken to jail.Vehicle fire: A deputy responded to a motor vehicle fire on I-70 near New Castle on July 21 at 5:14 p.m. No one was injured. Fire appeared to be a mechanical problem.Fire assist: Deputies helped control traffic for the Grand Valley Fire Department with a fire on County Rod 301 outside Parachute on July 21 at 10:10 p.m.
