PEACHY KEEN FESTIVAL: Colo. peach capital set to celebrate its signature crop

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - If you like peaches, you won't want to miss an opportunity to try a smorgasbord of peachy products next weekend when Palisade celebrates its 44th annual Peach Festival at Riverbend Park.There will be pies and ice cream, preserves and salsas, peach brandy, wine and daiquiris, as well as just plain peaches - fresh picked for the festival, Aug. 16-19.Festivities kick off Thursday with an ice cream social and street dance from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Palisade (Third and Main streets).

During the main event held at Riverbend Park Friday through Sunday, there will be 90-plus vendors, kids activities, live music, a peach-eating contest and more. The annual Feast in the Fields - a dinner and wine event - will be held Friday at Z's Orchard and Saturday at High Country Orchards. The cost is $95.Other notable events include agricultural and winery tours, guided historical walking tours, a Lions Club pancake breakfast, the Peach Festival parade and the regularly scheduled Palisade Sunday Farmers Market.For a full list of Peachfest activities, visit www.palisadepeachfest.com.The Palisade Peach Festival is a fundraiser for the town's Chamber of Commerce.
