Garfield County Sheriff's Department Cop Shop Report - Aug. 16, 2012

Driving under restraint: A deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction at 4500 County Road 233 on July 30 at 8:32 a.m. The driver, Christopher Eric Castillo, 27, of Silt, was found to allegedly be driving under restraint. He was arrested and taken to jail.

Stolen vehicle: On July 31 at 10:44 p.m., a woman reported her 1990 Jeep Wrangler was stolen from her driveway in Battlement Mesa.

Juvenile assault: Deputies responded to a disturbance in the Silt area on July 31 at 10:28 p.m. A 16-year-old Silt juvenile was summonsed and released to his parent.

Burglary: Deputies responded to a residence outside Rifle for a report of a burglary on Aug. 1 at 6:56 a.m. The case is currently under investigation.

Sexual assault: Deputies responded to a report of sexual assault outside Parachute on Aug. 1 at 4:30 p.m. The case is under investigation.

Dog at large: Deputies responded to a dog at large report outside New Castle on Aug. 1 at 10:21 p.m. Cecil Edward Bowden, 29, was issued a summons for suspicion of dog at large.

Domestic violence: Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Aug. 1 at 3:06 a.m. on East Carson Drive in Battlement Mesa. Jamie Lynn Rials, 27, of Parachute, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

Sexual assault: On Aug. 3 at 3:18 p.m., deputies received a report of a sexual assault on a child in the Parachute area. Steven Michael Hawkins, 32, of Parachute, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and was taken to jail. The case remains open and under investigation.

Missing vehicle: Deputies responded to Harvey Gap Reservoir on Aug. 4 at 5:08 p.m. on a report of a motor vehicle in the reservoir. It was not found, but was located later in the day and is under investigation.

Dog at large: Deputies responded to an animal complaint on Mid Valley Drive in the New Castle area on Aug. 4 at 6:29 p.m. King Lloyd, 63, was issued a summons for suspicion of dog at large.

DUI: Deputies contacted a vehicle on Railroad Avenue in Rifle on Aug. 4 at 3:41 a.m. for a traffic violation. Shane Michael Mello, 23, of Silt, was arrested and taken to jail on suspicion of DUI and careless driving.

Restraining order: Deputies responded to a report of an intoxicated man in the Rifle area on Aug. 4 at 11:10 p.m. Richard James Medina, 42, of Rifle, was arrested and taken to jail on suspicion of a restraining order violation.

Stolen license plate: Deputies took a report of a stolen license plate on County Road 335 in the New Castle area on Aug. 5 at 10:38 a.m.

DUI: Deputies responded to a domestic violence incident in the Battlement Mesa area on Aug. 5 at 5:57 a.m. on Angelica Circle in Battlement Mesa. Jennifer Rae Upchurch, 22, of Parachute, allegedly left the residence and was later arrested on suspicion of DUI, eluding, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.

Warrant arrest: Deputies contacted a man with an outstanding warrant on Silverton Court in Battlement Mesa on Aug. 5 at 7:45 p.m. and arrested Caleb James Smith, 19, of Parachute.

Vehicle fire: Deputies responded to a vehicle fire on Aug. 6 at 5 p.m. on River Frontage Road outside Silt. An initial investigation indicated the fire was accidental.

Vandalism/theft: On Aug. 6 at 11:33 a.m., deputies responded to an act of vandalism and theft of motor vehicle parts on County Road 319/Grass Mesa Road outside Rifle.

Vandalism: Deputies responded to a report of a vandalism incident on Riverboat Drive outside the New Castle area on Aug. 6 at 12:25 p.m. The case is closed pending further leads.

Domestic violence: Deputies responded to an assault call on County Road 302 in the Parachute area on Aug. 6 at 3:15 a.m. Jerred Sanchez, 22, of Parachute, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

Restraining order: Deputies responded to a disturbance on West Silverbell Place in Battlement Mesa on Aug. 6 at 11:56 p.m. Nettie Mae Fry, 27, of Parachute, was arrested on suspicion of violation of a protection order.

Horse shot: On Aug. 6 at 6:40 p.m., an animal control officer responded to a report of a horse being shot on County Road 219. Jarrod Edwards, 26, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals and possession of weapons by a previous offender and taken to jail. The case is still under investigation.

Theft: On Aug. 7 at 3:20 p.m., a deputy took a report of a theft that occurred on West Battlement Parkway in Battlement Mesa. The case is closed and inactive pending more evidence.

Arrest: Deputies stopped a stolen vehicle at mile marker 116 on I-70 near Glenwood Springs on Aug. 9 at 3:23 a.m. The driver, Juan Alan Carlos, 25, of Rifle, was arrested for an alleged warrant violation and traffic charges and was taken to jail.

False ID: A deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding at mile marker 78 on I-70 outside Parachute on Aug. 10. The driver allegedly gave a false name and was later found to have a suspended driver's license. Valentine Murillo Gonzalez, 19, of Parachute, was arrested and taken to jail.

Fire: Deputies helped with traffic control near a fire in the Fravert Reservoir area on Aug. 10 at 11:41 p.m. The fire was contained and was ruled to be caused by an accident.

Theft: Deputies took a report of a theft on Lodge Pole Circle in Battlement Mesa on Aug. 11 at 5:58 p.m. The case is closed pending further leads.

Domestic arrest: Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the Cottonwood Springs Mobile Home Park outside Rifle on Aug. 12 at 9:01 a.m. Jose R. Antillon-Chavez, 28, of Paonia, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, menacing and criminal impersonation and was taken to jail. The case remains under investigation.

Burglary: On Aug. 13 at 9:43 a.m., a deputy responded to a possible burglary on Cedar Court near the town of Parachute. No suspects have been identified or arrested. The case is closed pending further evidence.

Dog at large: An animal control deputy saw a dog at large along Rainbow Trail in Battlement Mesa on Aug. 13 at 11:45 a.m. The dog was captured and the owner, Cullen Joseph Warn, 20, of Parachute, was issued a summons.

Traffic/drug arrest: Deputies responded to a traffic complaint on westbound I-70 at mile marker 74.5 on Aug. 13 at 11:50 p.m. The driver, Michael Alexander Newton, 43, of Silt, was arrested on suspicion of several traffic and drug-related offenses, as well as an arrest warrant. He was taken to jail.
