To welcome cooler days to the Grand Valley, Cabela's Fall Great Outdoor Days will run this Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. "This event is our kick-off to fall," retail event coordinator Lauren Truitt said. "It's a great time to get outside and have some fun when it's not so stifling hot. Our goal is to be a retailer, educator, and a partner with conservation groups."Outdoor Days will feature more than 20 local conservation and recreation groups, interactive events, demonstrations and seminars. Activities are family friendly and appropriate for outdoors enthusiasts of all levels. Topics to be discussed will include camping, hunting, ATV-ing, fly fishing and more. It's the "big-game classic" this weekend, Truitt added. Conservation and recreation groups, as well as "pro staff," will be on-site to educate and "ignite the passion" of locals to "explore what the Grand Valley has to offer." An elk-call demonstration will be held at noon Saturday, and a water-fowl calling seminar is set for Sunday at noon and 2 p.m."We want to make this weekend fit the entire spectrum, from novice to pro (hunters)," Truitt said.Other activities include a kids BB-gun range and an archery range, as well as hunting-dog and gold-panning demonstrations. The U.S. Forest Service will also be at Cabela's to chat about various maps "highlighting trails and areas people can go and have fun in," Pruitt said.Fall Great Outdoors Days participants may additionally enter to win a prize valued at more than $11,000 - ask at the store for more details.Another Fall Great Outdoors Days weekend will be held Aug. 25-26 as a kickoff to archery season. Questions about hunting licenses and units will be answered at both of Cabela's "outdoors" weekends.Cabela's in Grand Junction is located at the Mesa Mall, at the intersection of 24 Road and U.S. 6 and 50.
