Go Purple! GJ Rockies make a push for the playoffs

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Not since 2001 have the GJ Rockies, formerly the Casper Ghosts, made the playoffs.

Hence the Purple Push - a campaign to cheer the Rockies to victory in their last games of the season and secure an appearance in postseason play.

The team is so close being one game behind the leading Ogden Raptors and Orem Owlz.

Officials with the GJ Rockies are also pushing for a big attendance benchmark. So far, the team has hosted 83,000 fans and hopes to reach the 100,000 mark in their first season in the Grand Valley.

"These kids need our support," said General Manager Tim Ray.

Starting Saturday, Sept. 1, the GJ Rockies are back at home for six games - Sept. 1-4 vs. Idaho Falls and Sept. 5-6 vs. Ogden. If the Rockies make the playoffs, their first game is Friday, Sept. 7. Regardless if the Rockies make it or not, the City of Grand Junction has declared Sept. 7 as GJ Rockies Day.
