LETTER: Priorities are out of whack around here

They say perception is everything, and I "perceive" some of the public works projects around here are out of whack!

When I see hungry, homeless families in the park a block from the new police station and lines of people waiting for soup kitchen food in the same block as the new County services building, I "perceive" something's out of whack.

If I'm wrong, correct me!

Doesn't anybody have a budget anymore? I understand School District 51 has one, but I "perceive" it's what it is because teacher union benefits trump buses and other stuff the kids need.

If I'm wrong, correct me!

How can we consider spending millions we don't have extending 29 Road, when we can't even fund school bus routes?

If I'm wrong, correct me!

If "perception is reality," then set me straight. And then explain how any of that is logical. Otherwise, I'll continue to "perceive" that what I see all around is out of whack!
