Spuds, Green River melons, pasta and peaches at Saturday market

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - The first of September is almost here and with it the fresh roasted green chilis are available along with bags of potatoes, Olathe Sweet sweet corn and field grown tomatoes under the green canopies of DeVries farm stand.Don's BBQ offers pulled pork, brisket and incredible brats for lunch or weekend meals.Banjo Joe's Palisade peaches are still in season at Forte Farms, with the J.H. Hale peaches being this week's featured variety. Bartlett pears are also ripening.Pappardelle's Pasta brings a bell pepper trio fettuccine and a fruit salad pasta mix, making for a little change at weekend gatherings.The King salmon has been spotted lurking within the freezers of Kaleb's Katch. These fillets and portions are trying to blend in with the surrounding halibut and sockeyes.Farmer Dave's hamburger fits the grilling bill, although a chuck roast in the smoker is tough to beat.The winter squash at Mesa Forge & Farm is a nice compliment to the fantastic summer taste of Green River melons. Wildflower honey and blueberry jam are good for toast and bagels.Kuhns' Peach Valley CSA has canning quantities of organic cucumbers, green beans and a selection of early fall apples. The assortment of fresh cut flowers assures us of a pleasant view for the coming week.As we roam the stands searching for the right items for Labor Day celebrations, one can also find homemade bread, rolls and muffins and many other fruits and vegetables.The Glenwood Springs Farmers Market is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday in the Rite-Aid parking lot, 1400 block of Grand Avenue in Glenwood Springs, through Oct. 27.
