Girl Scout Troop 10253 of Rifle is hosting the second annual Harvest Hay Maze throughout the month of October. There is a 1,000-bale hay maze that is family oriented during the day, and haunted at night. There is also a family festival that includes children's games, face painting, arts and crafts, pumpkins, family photos, concessions and more. The maze and events is open weekends through Sunday, Oct. 28. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays for Family Days, and Saturday nights from 6-10 p.m. for the haunted maze. The price is $5 for the maze and $5 for the children's activities. Concessions, photos and pumpkins are additional. The maze and festival are located at 497 County Road 233 in Rifle. Head east on 16th Street, left on County Road 233, and it's the third driveway on the left past Graham Mesa Elementary School.

The Redstone Haunted Hay Ride takes the brave on a 40-minute ride through the Haunted Forest, including lots of scary characters and freaky scenes. Rides start on Oct. 12 and will run Friday and Saturday nights through October, as well as Tuesday, Oct. 30, and Halloween night, Wednesday, Oct. 31. There is a 6 p.m. Twilight Ride for families with younger kids that will be a little less scary, followed by 7, 8 and 9 p.m. rides for older kids and adults. Seats sell out quickly, so be sure to get your tickets early. Part of the proceeds will be donated to local school groups. Ticket prices run $30 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under. Children under 5 will be free with parents on the Twilight Ride. Contact the Redstone Inn for ticket information at 970-963-2526.

Hike the rocky trail by lamplight to Linwood Cemetery, where the ghosts of Glenwood's past recount their days among the living. Doc Holliday and Kid Curry are two famous spirits that materialize near their grave markers.Tours are 7, 7:45, 8:30 and 9:15 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 12-13, 19-20, and 26-27. Tickets are $15 and are available by calling the Frontier Historical Society and Museum at 945-4448.

Come to the New Castle Branch Library, 402 W. Main St., to watch the timeless classic "Frankenstein" at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24. We will have a special prize for those who dare to wear a costume inspired by a movie character. Come prepared to have fun. For information call 984-2346 or go to www.gcpld.org.Halloween Horror Movie & Spooky Costume Contest Teens are invited to the Rifle Branch Library, 207 East Ave., for a terrifying Halloween horror movie and spooky costume contest at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. From the creators of "Paranormal Activity" and "Saw," "Insidious" will make you shiver with fear. Come dressed up to partake in our costume contest - best costumes will receive prizes. Come to the Rifle Branch Library, 207 East Ave., for a special Halloween arts and crafts program at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. Children are invited to decorate their own trick-or-treat bags. Teens, dress up in your best Halloween costume for karaoke fun at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the New Castle Branch Library, 402 W. Main St. Snacks and beverages will be provided. For information call 984-2346 or go to www.gcpld.org.

Preschoolers, ages 3-5, and their accompanying adults are invited to come to the Glenwood Springs Branch Library, 413 Ninth St., for a special Halloween storytime at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.
