GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Tying the knot can be tricky business. From changing your name to the shape of your cake, there are enough planning challenges to turn any sensible woman into bridezilla. Hitched in GJ is here to help with the 2012 Bridal Experience, a bridal show and expo at the Courtyard Marriott 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.The event will include businesses from the Grand Valley and surrounding areas that specialize in the art of the wedding. Hitched in GJ, a locally based website founded last November, helps soon-to-be newlyweds connect with Grand Valley and nearby businesses for all things wedding planning, including flowers, invitations, cakes, catering, churches, venues, photography, gowns, tuxedos and even legal council. All will be present at the Bridal Experience. "(It will be) a really good variety, everything a bride needs to plan her wedding," Christina Pope, co-founder of Hitched in GJ, said. A prize table will be filled with $50+ gift certificates from many of the businesses, and will be raffled off to attendees. The grand prize, a horse-drawn carriage service for one lucky bride's wedding from JR Carriage Service, is valued at over $1,000. All evening long there will be a roaming fashion show by Annelise Bridal Boutique, which opened in September at 201 Colorado Ave. and is currently an appointment-only business. The fashion show will give brides a sneak peek at what the boutique has to offer before its grand opening. "Their style is very unique," Pope said about Annelise Bridal's garments. The show will also include a separate room with a custom tablescape competition. Five local businesses that specialize in table set-ups including plate settings, centerpieces, and flowers will show off their skills. Attendees can vote on their favorites and the winner will receive a free year of promotion on Hitched in GJ's website. "The wedding industry is popular everywhere... the brides in the Grand Valley are very enthusiastic," Pope said about creating the wedding services network. "(It was) a niche that needed to be filled."Aside from connecting wedding service businesses with the betrothed, the website offers testimonials and articles addressing all manner of wedding concerns. From planning to the big day itself, articles include current wedding trends, dealing with stress and anxiety leading up to the wedding, "Controlling Your Inner 'Bridezilla,'" and even super specific articles like "Nail Tips."Registration to attend the event is $6 online, and $8 at the door.
