The Republicans blame Obama for creating all this debt, but that is just a bunch of malarkey. Since Gerald Ford, Democratic presidents have increased the National Budget by $669 billion over 12 years, an average of $56 billion per year, while Republican presidents have added $2.5 trillion over 20 years, an average of $125 billion. The debt has increased during this same time by $1.7 trillion under Carter/Clinton and by 9.5 trillion under Reagan/Bushes. George W. Bush increased federal spending by an average of $212 billion per year. Federal spending under Obama has only gone up $100 billion in two years, or $50 billion per year average and annual deficits are on the way down.
When Clinton departed, he left Bush a budget surplus of $128 billion. When Bush departed he saddled Obama with a budget deficit of $1.4 trillion.
The Republicans claim that the 2009 budget was Obama's. However, the 2009 US Fiscal Year ended on Sept. 30, 2009. That budget was submitted by George Bush and it was for $3.1 trillion. It ended up being $3.5 trillion because of TARP and Obama's stimulus which added $200 billion.
The truth is Republicans are responsible for our current fiscal problems with their "tax cut now, worry about the deficit later" philosophy. It has never worked and it won't work in the future. Yet that is the only idea that we know for certain Romney/Ryan will implement if they get elected.
The Republicans state they are the party of values and that people should accept the consequences of their mistakes. Then how come they don't accept blame for our country's fiscal problems? Instead they rely on the Right Wing Propaganda machine (Fox News and Rush Limbaugh) to brainwash the American people into believing it's all Obama's fault.
