Boat inspections end at Rifle, Harvey Gap

Rifle Gap and Harvey Gap State Parks will stop inspecting boats for the season at the end of the day on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The inspections check for aquatic nuisance species (ANS), including quagga mussels and zebra mussels, to protect Colorado rivers and watersheds from the spread of ANS.

Boat ramps at both locations will close to watercraft from Thursday, Nov. 1 through March 31, 2013, and both reservoirs will be closed to all trailered and/or motorized watercraft from Nov. 1 through March 31, 2013.

Hand-launch watercraft will be able to operate (without motors, including trolling motors) on both lakes until ice forms. Hand-launch watercraft are restricted to kayaks, canoes, rafts, belly boats, windsurfer boards, paddle boards, float tubes and inner tubes.

For additional information, check the "conditions" section of the Rifle Gap and Harvey Gap website at www.cpw.state.co.us.
