Jerrod and Tiffany Merriam are elated to announce the arrival of their handsome son, Liam Marney Merriam. He was born at 11:03 a.m. Oct. 15, 2012. He weighed 8 pounds, 4.5 ounces, and was 21 inches long at birth.His big sister, Brighit, is already fulfilling her big sister duties and is very happy to have a little brother.Liam is a wonderful addition to our family, and we lovingly welcome him with absolute joy.

Scott Summers Jr. and Rachel Koch of Rifle are pleased to announce the birth of their son Ethan Scott Summers. Ethan was born Oct. 19, 2012, at Valley View Hospital.Grandparents are Scott and Sheila Summers of New Castle, and Rick and Eileen Koch of New Castle. Great-grandparents are Lois and Roger Rayski of Maryland.

Basalt High School junior Cristian A. Mendez of El Jebel has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars. The society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved academic excellence. Mendez is the son of immigrants from El Salvador. The society was founded in 2002 by the Nobel family, which also established the Nobel Prizes.

Annie Brooks of Glenwood Springs took first place honors at the Evergreen Artist's Association Show in Evergreen with the sculpture shown above. The annual fall show featured more than 150 artists from the region showing two and three dimensional artwork. Brooks's "Pyramid Raku Box" was one of 27 pieces of three dimensional art juried into the show. Brooks is a member of Glenwood's Gallery 809.
