Every year that Grand Junction holds the "Pumpkin Chucking Contest," I feel embarrassed and ashamed at such overt wastefulness in our state (and country) ... let alone our city. It is sad that there are those who still have the "food-fights-are-fun mentality," especially in these days when so many people are going to bed hungry, even in our own country.
I wonder what other countries that are experiencing starvation would think of us if they saw such waste? To them, and some of us here, pumpkins are seen and used as food (and are very nutritious).
Hopefully, next year, there will be some folks who will think on these thoughts when the "contest" undoubtedly is hosted again.
