Kick off your Thanksgiving holiday (Nov. 22) with the first annual Rifle Turkey Trot 5K, hosted by the Rifle High School cross country and track and field programs, at Deerfield Park on Thanksgiving morning. The race kicks off at 9 a.m. with a family-friendly course through the park.
Registration is $25 per person, or $70 for the entire family. Register online at www.active.com or beginning at 8 a.m. on race day. The registration includes a shirt as well as pre- and post-race refreshments. Prizes will be awards for the top male and female competitors, as well as for the best costumes.

This Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22) will begin at the Glenwood Springs Community Center at 10 a.m. Test your running abilities on a fresh new course.
Prerace registration is under way at Independence Run and Hike in Carbondale. The Glenwood Springs High School boys and girls swim teams, along with the Sopris Barracudas, will be pre-selling race entries as well starting Nov. 7. Prerace registration will be $7.
Race-day registration will be $10 and begin at 9 a.m. inside the community center.
The 2012-13 winter sports meeting will be held this Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the main gym at Glenwood Springs High School. All parents are encouraged to attend.
Individual winter sport programs will meet immediately after the general session. Team policies and procedures will be discussed during these meetings.
Practice begins on Friday, Nov. 9, and all student-athletes must have completed paperwork in hand to be able to practice.
Burning Mountain Bowl will be starting a men's league in New Castle.
The league will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 9, and will run every Wednesday for 16 weeks. The league will consist of four-man teams.
There will be an organizational meeting on Jan. 2, 2013, at 7 p.m.
