Latest round of community grants awarded

Glenwood Springs City Council recently approved $15,800 in discretionary fund grants to various community nonprofit organizations.

Acting on the recommendation of the city's specially appointed Financial Advisory Board, the latest round of grants were awarded to: Alpine Legal Services, $500; Catholic Charities, $2,500; Hospice of the Valley, $2,500; Mountain Valley Developmental (adult services), $4,000; Roaring Fork Family Resource Centers, $500; and Youth Zone, $3,300.

In addition, council agreed to award $2,500 to the True Media Foundation, after a follow-up discussion and recommendation from the advisory board based on an earlier funding request.

The city's discretionary grant fund for the remainder of 2012 sits at $3,697, which will be reserved for late-year requests, according to city finance officials.
