Your New Castle LIFT-UP food bank has had another busy year, with many of our friends and neighbors struggling to support their families.

On the weekend of Nov. 10-11, New Castle Cub Scouts Pack 221, led by John Harcourt, collected over 600 bags of nonperishables and delivered them to LIFT-UP at the River Center.

The scouts are so much fun to work with, and we see them growing into caring and giving individuals before our very eyes. Scouts and parents were a great help in the sorting process and other eager volunteers have been sorting and organizing as we receive more and more donations.

As the scouts carried in bag after bag of groceries, we couldn't help but realize how lucky we are to be living in such a generous community. To the townspeople who donated, the scouts who picked up the food and the volunteers who help sort and organize it, each and every one of you have our heartfelt thanks.

Throughout the year, LIFT-UP continues to give emergency assistance on a regular basis at our location on Fourth Street in the River Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.
