Rifle's run to Saturday's Class 3A football state title game versus Silver Creek has been quite a journey, one that's afforded the Bears the chance to play at some esteemed venues.
Last weekend, Rifle practiced at Colorado State University-Pueblo's ThunderBowl in advance of its state semifinal game against Pueblo East at Dutch Clark Stadium.
This weekend, the Bears will practice at Cherry Creek High School's Stutler Bowl ahead of their matchup with the Raptors at Legacy Stadium in Aurora.
"To me, that's one of the coolest things," Rifle head coach Damon Wells said. "We will have played, or at least been on the field, at the Stutler Bowl, CSU-Pueblo and then Dutch Clark. If you're checking off a list of facilities in Colorado, that's a good little stretch right there. Then, of course, there's Bears Stadium."
And Bears Stadium, Rifle's home field and site of the team's first- and second-round playoff wins, is without doubt the most cherished venue of them all for the Bears.
Silver Creek's Andre Apodaca is doing his part to spice things up as Saturday's title game approaches. Taking to the Twittersphere, the junior linebacker posted his thoughts on Saturday's matchup:
"Their time is done; it's over," he wrote from his account, @AndreApodaca5. "I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great football team Rifle has. Screw em. THIS is our time."
Time will tell exactly whose time it is.
