GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - Kathy Hall of Rifle is the latest winner in the Glenwood Springs Downtown Parking Perks promotion. She won $500 in cash equivalent tokens for her efforts.
Hall is the Division 5 Water Court clerk, working in the Garfield County Courthouse in downtown Glenwood Springs, a position she's held for 13 years.
Usually she rides the Roaring Fork Transit Authority bus to Glenwood Springs from Rifle. In the spring, she decided to register her car's license plates at the Parking Perks contest website.
On the rare days that she does drive, she parks in the recommended alternative lots.
Downtown Parking Perks was designed to keep short-term parking spots available for visitors, shoppers and diners in the downtown core during construction of the library and parking garage. The program offers incentives like this to downtown employees and others for parking elsewhere.
"Wow! It's fantastic," said Hall on learning about her win. "Riding the bus and parking a little way out is not an inconvenience."
With her winnings - which come in the form of redeemable tokens accepted at 20 participating downtown businesses - she said she plans to spoil herself and her sister with some retail therapy.
Downtown Parking Perks will continue until construction on Cooper Avenue concludes in fall 2013.
Everyone age 18 and older is invited to register their car, bike or both to have a chance at winning. To register and learn more, visit www.downtownparkingperks.com.
