Editor's note: The Garfield County Sheriff's Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Child abuse: At 8:04 a.m. on Nov. 18, deputies responded to a report of child abuse at a home near New Castle. After investigation, they arrested Scott A. Markiecki, 41, of New Castle on charges of child abuse, and booked him into the Garfield County Jail.
False imprisonment: At 5:29 p.m. on Nov. 19, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance outside of Rifle, in which three people were injured. They arrested Richard J. Medina, 42, address unknown, on charges of menacing, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, violation of a restraining order and third degree assault, among other charges. He was booked into the Garfield County Jail.
Warrant arrest: At 11:13 p.m. on Nov. 20, deputies responded to a 911 "hang-up" call from a residence near Carbondale. After investigating, deputies arrested Rafael Ramirez, 44, of Glenwood Springs on an outstanding warrant for allegedly failing to appear in court. He was booked him into the Garfield County Jail.
Death: At 7:21 p.m. on Nov. 23, deputies responded to an emergency call to a home outside New Castle. Upon arrival, they found a deceased male, Richard Smart, 42, of New Castle, at the home. The man's body was turned over to the Garfield County Coroner's office for further investigation, and the coroner's office reported on Nov. 28 that there were no signs of foul play.
Suicidal man: At 6:01 p.m. on Nov. 23, deputies were called to deal with a reportedly suicidal man in the Silt area. The man was located the following morning, and no further information was immediately available from the sheriff's office.
Tagger tagged: At 2:46 p.m. on Nov. 24, deputies responded to a report of tagging in the Battlement Mesa area, and issued a summons into court to Corey Weedon, 20, Parachute, for spray painting.
