Grab some eats at Chomps Deli in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - When Robert Fishman opened his first Chomp's Delicatessen six years ago in Glenwood Springs, he aimed to create a one-of-a-kind sandwich shop with flavorful options and a casual vibe. His hot sandwiches are extra meaty, he prides himself on Chomp's quality par-baked bread, the soup is fresh-made every day, and he offers a variety of salad options."Our Italian (sandwich) - with four kids of meat - is the most popular," General Manager Carolyn Loren said. Now established with an award-winning concept, Fishman is bringing his vision of "slow food fast" to Grand Junction, with a new location at 1122 N. 12th St. It's practically on Colorado Mesa University's campus, in clear view of the Moss Performing Arts Center. "It's in the old Taco John's location," Loren added.Because of its close proximity to CMU, Chomps offers a 20 percent discount for students with their ID cards. And free WiFi is available for all customers during business hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Delivery throughout Grand Junction only costs $1, and catering options are available as well.Luckily for Chomp's hot sandwich enthusiasts, the new Grand Junction location serves up the same menu as the Glenwood shop. "We have quite a following," Loren said. Plus, Fishman said the Glenwood shop has already received consecutive "Local's Choice" awards for "Best Sandwich" through the Glenwood Post Independent. It's most recent gold medal was awarded just this year.Loren additionally noted that Chomp's in Grand Junction aims to serve lots of local ingredients and food items whenever possible. Cupcakes offered at Chomp's, for example, were made at another Grand Junction business - Hey, Sweet Cakes!"Chomps isn't a chain," Fishman said. "It's my own deal. ... You're not going to get a sandwich like ours anywhere else."According to Fishman, he first began working in sandwich shops during college. And after a stint as a teacher, the Glenwood Springs resident got back to his roots, first with his Glenwood location and now with an eye for expansion."We'd like to open a shop in Durango down the road," Fishman said. For more information about delivery and catering, call 970-549-4000 or visit www.chompsdeli.com. The Chomp's website is currently undergoing a revamp to include the new GJ location, along with information about Chomp's in Glenwood.
