Florida, here they come.
The Glenwood Springs High School cheerleading team recently competed in two regional qualifiers for the National High School Cheer Championships, which will take place in Florida in February.
The team earned a bid to nationals by placing first in the non-tumbling division at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Southern Colorado Regional in Pueblo. The Demons went on to place fourth in the tumbling division at the UCA's Mile High Championship in Denver.
In the coming weeks, Glenwood's cheerleaders will be raising money to fund their trip to Florida. They will be at the Glenwood Springs Mall the next few weekends wrapping presents.
Next up for the Demons is the Colorado High School Activities Association's state spirit championships this weekend at the Denver Coliseum. The team will be competing at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening in the Class 4A cheer division. The top eight make it into the finals. Each cheer team puts together a 2 minute, 30 second routine filled with dance, stunts, cheer and tumbling.
Rifle (Class 4A), Coal Ridge (3A) and Grand Valley (3A) will also be competing at the state spirit championships.
