Leoda was born on Aug. 1, 1944, to Lauren and Myrtle Nye in Glenwood Springs. She passed away on Nov. 26 at the age of 68 in Florence, Ariz.
She was married to the love of her life, Max Patton, on May 2, 1989, but had been with him since 1982. During her marriage, she accepted and loved three step-children and their families as her own. These children included Wade and Cheryl Patton, Weston Patton, and Amanda and Mike Polizzi.
Lovingly known as nana, she had eight grand children; Bryan, Lauren, Caity, Emily, Morgan, Max, Zoey and Zach.
She had a brother-in-law and sister in-law, Kelly and Jeanette Lyon, and Monta Hinkle.
Leoda also had seven brothers and sisters of her own; Lawrence Nye, Myrna and Darwin Barta, Larry Nye, Bob Nye, Danny Nye, Delbert and Cherlynn Nye, and Jerry and Rita Nye. With all those brothers and sisters came many nephews, nieces and great-nephews and nieces.
Leoda spent a lot of her life working as a dispatcher in Texas, ran a day care in Basalt, then worked at Charcoal Burger in Basalt for several years before becoming the co-owner of Mr. P's in Silt. She loved spending time with her family, babying her dogs, Tiny and Tippy, crocheting, creating beautiful stain-glass art, painting, putting together jigsaw puzzles and canning. She also loved having chickens and selling fresh eggs to the locals. She enjoyed watching birds and the knowledge she had of the many different kinds of birds was always impressive. Anyone who knew her will probably never look at a humming bird or see a jigsaw puzzle on a table without thinking of her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Lauren Nye, her brother, Lawrence Nye, and her daughter, Jocelle Almond.
Rest in peace, Nana, you are truly going to be missed by all who knew you!
Until we meet again,
A memorial will be held sometime this summer.
