The New Castle Recreation Department has released its Winter Activity Guide with a variety of programs for youth and adults.
New youth programs this winter include: Slapshot Floor Hockey and Lil' Kickers Futsal for ages 5-8; Spike It Volleyball for ages 8-14; and the Trompin' Tots Spring Into Action program for ages 1-4.
New programs for adults include a 4 on 4 basketball league, pickleball clinic, Snow Lover's Club and the Winter Blast Quads Volleyball Tournament. Final registration for boys third through sixth grade basketball and the popular Tuesday Adult Mixed Quads Volleyball League is also being accepted.
Tuesday Adult Mixed Quads League begins in mid-January for both recreational and competitive teams. Teams are required to have at least one woman on the court during play, and the league is self-officiated. Registration fees are $120 per team, and the deadline is Jan. 11.
Spike It youth volleyball is a new program for children ages 8-14 on Tuesday evenings once a week for six weeks. The focus of the program is on teaching and developing the basic skills of the sport and include weekly drills and scrimmage games. Registration fee is $40, and the program dates are Jan. 22 through Feb. 26.
On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Winter Blast Quads Tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. Teams can be any combination of male and/or female players and the format will be pool-play with teams placed in playoff divisions based on their pool-play results. Registration fee is $80 per team by Feb. 4, $100 after that date.
