The Junior Titans Ballers Camp, a winter basketball camp, is slated for Jan. 2-5 at Coal Ridge High School.

All boys and girls in the third through eighth grades are eligible to sign up. The camp will run from 8-10 a.m. each day. T-shirts and snacks are provided.

Glenwood Springs Middle School will be the site of the Elks Hoop Shoot on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Boys and girls 8 to 13 years old are eligible to participate. Registration will run from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., with the competition beginning at 10 a.m. Participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate.

The new Gracie Carbondale Jiu Jitsu training center now offers Bullyproof programs for children 5 to 13 years old.

The Gracie Jiu Jitsu martial arts approach focuses on a non-violent ground technique (or "grappling") that makes it accessible to children regardless of size, age, and strength. No experience is necessary.

Wednesday, Jan. 2, is the last chance to pre-register for the Sunlight Winter Sports Club's Buddy Werner program.

From 4-6 p.m. at the U.S. Bank community room (1901 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs), you can register your racer for the youth ski team and pick up his/her racing bib. This is a chance to avoid the lines and craziness of opening morning on Saturday, Jan. 5.

This season, a $25 bib deposit is required (in the form of a check). The check will not be deposited and will be returned at the end of the season when bibs are returned.

Coaches are meeting on Sunday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and will be skiing in preparation for the season.

Buddy Werner primer: This program is for youngsters 6 to 12 years old who are recreational skiers and want a basic exposure to alpine ski racing competition. Racers gather at Sunlight Mountain from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each Saturday beginning on the first non-holiday weekend in January. Adult volunteer coaches run the show.

The New Castle Recreation Department invites all snow lovers to attend an inaugural club meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the New Castle Community Center.

The purpose of the meeting will be to introduce snow enthusiasts to other people with similar interests, and possibly put together some group trips this winter. If you enjoy snowshoeing, skiing or snowboarding, register on the www.newcastlerec.com website under NCR Interest Groups, or just come to the meeting.

The New Castle Recreation Department is offering a new Lil' Kickers Futsal program for children ages 5-8 beginning in mid-January.

This new six-week co-ed program includes weekly practices and scrimmage games, with the focus on teaching the basic soccer skills of dribbling, passing and shooting, in a fun indoor environment.

The program will be held on Tuesday evenings from 5-6 p.m., Jan. 15-Feb. 19. The fee is $40 and registration can be done by phone at 984-3352 or online at www.newcastlerec.com.

The New Castle Recreation Department is offering the new Slapshot Floor Hockey program for children 5 to 8 years old beginning in mid-January.

Although there isn't any ice rink in New Castle, that doesn't mean area youth can't play hockey. This new six-week co-ed program includes weekly practices and scrimmage games, with the focus on teaching basic hockey skills in a fun active environment.

The program will be conducted on Thursday evenings from 5-6 p.m., Jan. 17-Feb. 21. No equipment is needed, as the Colorado Avalanche donated the sticks, pucks and goals.

The Team Sopris swim team, which is based out of Glenwood Springs, is seeking an energetic assistant coach to help with its year-round program.

Applicants must have a swimming background and be willing to work afternoons, weeknights and the occasional weekends. Direct questions and resumes highlighting aquatic experience to coach Damon Garrison at liquidcoach@gmail.com.

The Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race at Sunlight Mountain Resort, originally scheduled for Dec. 9, is now scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 6. Call (970) 947-9173 for more information.

The Roaring Fork Wrestling Club is new to the valley. The club is open to wrestlers of all skill levels from 5 to 18 years old.

Coaches Jason Gleasman, PJ Bory, Ryan Bradley and Thaddeus Eshelman bring a wealth of experience to the club. Gleasman is a two-time world champion, seven-time national champion and a 1996 Olympian. Bory was an NCAA Tournament qualifier and an Atlantic Coast Conference champion.

Fundraising opportunities will be available to help cover the cost for any and all athletes. The cost for the season is $200.

The New Castle Recreation Department is offering a Tiny Tots fitness program beginning in early January for children ages 1-4.

Join other parents and their toddlers and participate in a variety of physical exercises that promote active movement and support the enhancement of motor skill development, coordination, balance, language development and socialization.

The Trompin' Tots Spring Into Action program will be held on Wednesday mornings, Jan. 7-March 11, from 9-10 a.m. at the New Castle Community Center. The fee is $99 for 10 classes. Register by phone at 984-3352 or online at www.newcastlerec.com.
