Cody Walls ran the final leg with the speed he showcased playing many a sport at Coal Ridge High School.
Zipping across the finish ahead of all those in pursuit, Walls, who also played football, basketball and baseball in high school, polished off the Titans' first state title of any kind at the May state track and field meet in Lakewood. The then-senior's final leg closed out a golden run of 1 minute, 29.94 seconds in the Class 3A 4x200-meter relay.
Samuel Diedrich, Raul Oyarzabal and Chris Contreras also chipped in speedy legs to help pen a little school history.
"This is what we've been wanting all year," Walls said afterwards. "This is what we've been working for."
