LETTER: A Happy New Year for wind power in Colorado

President Obama and Congress rang in the New Year with a promise for cleaner air and water. They renewed critical tax credits for the growth of wind energy in Colorado and across America as a part of a package to avert the fiscal cliff.

Burning fossil fuels contributes to global warming, harms our health, and pollutes our air and water. The renewal of the wind Production Tax Credit (PTC) and offshore wind Investment Tax Credit (ITC) will mean more clean wind energy that doesn't fuel global warming or pollute and is creating jobs right here in Colorado.

Wind power in Colorado already prevents as much global warming pollution as taking 525,000 cars off the road per year, and could prevent as much as taking an additional 457,000 cars off the road in 2016 if wind growth continues at current rates.

We thank President Obama, Sens. Udall and Bennet, and Reps. DeGette, Polis and Perlmutter for supporting wind power and a cleaner, healthier 2013.
