The New Ute Theatre Society has been thrilled to receive a generous donation of more than $4,000 from the Rifle Union High School classes of 1956, 1957 and 1958. Class members toured the building while in town for their combined reunion this summer and were so pleased with the plans that they wanted to be part of it. After discussing ideas, they decided to make it their "class project."
Marilyn Hall, Charlene Collett, Roberta Shaeffer, Marlea Antes, Tom McKee, Lorraine and Gordon Place, and Sue Dorr took on the challenge of coordinating a multi-state fundraising membership drive.
This kind of response shows the understanding of people who lived in Rifle through their formative and high school years of the need for a center that provides activities and opportunities for people of all ages. The Ute Theater played a significant part in their adolescent years, and they are eager for the community to have the additional activities the New Ute Event Center will make available.
The building was originally built in 1947, when they were still in elementary school. Most of them no longer live in Rifle. It says a lot about their community spirit and what the old theater meant to them that they would make this commitment.
This kind of broad based support illustrates the potential for the event center to galvanize community interest and offer enrichment activities on many levels. This support also helps other people and entities realize just how viable the New Ute Event Center will be. In fact, some of the children of members of the classes of '56, '57 and '58 who graduated from Rifle High School are thinking of making fundraising for the New Ute Events Center an alumni challenge.
The New Ute Theatre Society would like to recognize this outstanding support for the planned project from the members of the Rifle Union High School classes of '56, '57 and '58 who contributed to the extraordinary effort of this multi-class project.
