Sprouts finally to open doors in Grand Junction next week

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - With its grand opening just days away, there's a flurry of activity at Sprouts Farmers Market, 1450 W. Independent Ave. Staffers are stocking shelves and putting the finishing touches on the 27,000 square-foot natural-foods market, which will open its doors Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 7 a.m. The new grocery store is located next to Hobby Lobby, near Walmart on Rimrock Avenue.The discounted healthy foods store was originally set to be a Sunflower Farmers Market (another health-food grocery chain). But the Phoenix-based Sprouts chain bought the Sunflower chain in 2012 and rebranded the Grand Junction location before opening it.According to Sprouts Spokeswoman Kim Rockley, Sprouts has hired 85 new employees for its local store, many of them Grand Junction locals.The 27,000 square-foot natural-foods market will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, and will feature an expansive produce section, prepared foods, plus a variety of "all-natural and organic" products - like vitamins, supplements, meat, grains and an in-house bakery. A large bulk-foods department is also included in the new facility.The grand opening of Sprouts Farmers Market in Grand Junction will also feature many deals and samples for new customers.Sprouts Grand Junction is the 23rd location in Colorado; Sprouts in Longmont opened Jan. 2. In total, Sprouts has 150 stores in eight states.
