CRAIG, Colorado - Grand Valley High School's wrestling team won six of eight matches in a dual meet at Moffat County Thursday. The Cardinals scored the meet win, 39-30.
Grand Valley's Will Hinkle won in a decision over Moffat's Jacob Teeter in the 152-pound classification, 19-9. The Cardinals' Michael Salazar also decisioned Curtis Dunlap at 160 pounds.
Pins for the Cardinals came from Cody Pfau over Garrett Uptain at 106 pounds; Ricardo Malta over Shandon Hadley at 132 pounds; George Stagg over Stelios Peroulis at 145 pounds; and Bryan Hegwood over Brady Springer at 170 pounds.
Moffat County scored wins at 113 pounds and 138 pounds. Tucker Schultz was unable to wrestle for Grand Valley in the 138-pound division, and with neither team fielding a full roster five weights went by way of forfeit.
"Tucker is one of our top wrestlers, but he wasn't able to go tonight," Grand Valley coach Rick Gallegos said. "Overall, we still did pretty well trying to work for the pins."
Grand Valley is back on the mat for this Saturday's Eagle Valley Invitational in Gypsum, along with Glenwood Springs and Coal Ridge.

OLATHE, Colorado - The Grand Valley boys basketball team lost 40-33 in a 3A Western Slope League game at Olathe Thursday.
The Cardinals held a 33-29 lead at the end of the third quarter, but were outscored 11-2 in the final frame.
Junior Tyler Scott led Grand Valley with 15 points and 11 rebounds on the night. Senior Wyatt Hurst chipped in eight points for the Cardinals.
Grand Valley remains winless on the season, at 0-8 overall and 0-4 in league play. Olathe improved to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the WSL.
The Grand Valley girls also lost their game at Olathe. A final score was not available at press time. The Lady Cardinals stand at 4-3 on the season and 2-2 in league play following the loss, while Olathe moves to 6-1 and 4-1.
