LETTER: The answer is to arm all schoolchildren

The NRA and politico State Sen. Steve King's plan to place a uniformed police officer in every school to prevent another senseless mass killing is yet another foolish knee-jerk reaction doomed to failure. Click on Wikipedia and read the minute-by-minute history of the Columbine High School massacre. Noteworthy is the fact that a uniformed Jefferson County school resource officer was eating his lunch in a squad car and the first to see the killers crossing the parking lot with their bombs and weapons.

After a brief exchange of shots, he called for back-up and within 5 minutes two other deputies were there who also exchanged rounds with the killers. In the end the killers entered the school and went about the slaughter undeterred by the cops who waited outside for the SWAT teams.

The true answer to this oft-repeated school shooting problem is to arm all children 8 years and older after proper NRA training classes. The idea of making all teachers pack heat is shortsighted and inadequate. With fully armed students, the deterrent factor to another psycho massacre (and an end to the issue of bullying) will be resolved.

Another plus to this proposal is a boom in small handgun sales and child-sized gun fanny packs..... all in all a win-win for the Second Amendment and the American way.
