An adult mixed quads league is self-officiated, and perfect for both recreational and competitive teams. Teams are required to have at least one woman on the court at all times. League play is on Tuesday evenings through mid-March. Registration fees are $120 per team, individual registration is $30 per person. Preregistration is required for this league, and can be done in person at the New Castle Community Center, online at www.newcastlerec.com , or by phone at 984-3352.A free HoopFest event for adults will be held from 6:45-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Riverside Middle School. HoopFest will include basketball mini-tournament play, along with skill contests and prizes. HoopFest is a great way to meet other basketball enthusiasts and get a team together for the Thursday night 4-on-4 league that starts Feb. 7. Registration for the upcoming league will also be accepted and the fee is $100 per team in this self-officiated program. The first annual Grand Junction Rockies Winter Caravan will include a stop in Rifle and features Pioneer League most valuable player and National short-season Rookie of the Year (Baseball America) David Dahl. The Colorado Rockies 2012 No. 1 draft choice will join team front office personnel along with the official mascot, Corky, as the caravan moves through six Western Slope communities over a three-day period. "We want to reach out to our fan base and say thank you," said Tim Ray, Grand Junction Rockies general manager. "This minor league baseball franchise belongs to the entire Western Slope, along with the state of Colorado and eastern Utah." The caravan will be a traditional meet and greet with plenty of autographs and door prizes for fans. It begins today, Jan. 24, in Montrose and concludes on Jan. 26 in Grand Junction. Included on Friday, Jan. 25, from 5-6:30 p.m., is a stop at Colorado Mountain College on Airport Road in Rifle. The same night, the caravan will be at Big Daddy's Sports Bar in Glenwood Springs from 7-8:30 p.m.Caravan stops are free and open to the public. Families are urged to attend.
