Peter Eugene Carlson, 76, of New Castle, Colo., passed away at Valley View Hospital on Dec. 15, 2012.Peter was born on Aug. 1, 1936, in Post Washington, NY, to Eugene August Carlson and Celeste Chrystal Carlson. Peter was never married and had no children.Peter "Pete" Carlson spent the first half of his life in Great Neck, NY, and often reminisced over fond memories of this time. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army and served as a photographer for the 82nd Airborne Division from 1954-1962. After his military service, Peter worked in sales and was a volunteer fireman at the Vigilant Engine & Hook & Ladder Company in Great Neck, NY. In 1975, Peter was hired by Sport-Obermeyer and moved to Aspen, Colo. In 1978, he settled in Missouri Heights near Carbondale, Colo., where he lived for nearly 40 years. After leaving Sport-Obermeyer, Peter worked for Little Debbie from 1990 until his retirement in 2006.Peter enjoyed skiing, golf and other outdoor sports. He kept up with events at Vigilant Engine & Hook & Ladder Company and enjoyed watching culinary shows and reading the newspaper.Peter was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister. Peter is survived by a nephew, Bonner Bahnsen, and a niece. He will be greatly missed by lifelong friends including Maureen and Lionel Bellandi, Judy Stark, Marilou Curren, and Robert Dixon and Eddie Dixon. Peter also cared a great deal for Taeya and Brecken Camp who were his "adopted" grandchildren. Special thanks are conveyed to Dean Murphy, Sara Dodero, Megan Camp and Linda Strickland who were all good friends and caregivers of Peter during his lifetime.Peter wanted to be remembered as a friendly, considerate person who would help those in need.
