Editor's note: The Garfield County Sheriff's Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Violating court orders: At 5:23 p.m. on Jan. 18, deputies contacted Jose Alberto Vega Herrera, 22, of New Castle, on the Colorado River Road (CR 335) near New Castle. He was arrested and jailed on charges of violation of a restraining order and violation of bail bond conditions.
Speeding: At 9:31 p.m. on Jan. 18, deputies stopped a vehicle on CR 103 (Crystal Springs Road) for an unreported reason. The driver, Darren S. Carbary, 42, of Grandby, was arrested for speeding and driving a vehicle while his license was under restraint for a drug or alcohol offense.
Unattended death: At 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 19, deputies were sent to an unattended death near Rifle. No cause of death was reported, and the case remains open pending a report from the Garfield County Coroner's office.
Pot bust: At 7 p.m. on Jan. 19, deputies stopped a vehicle outside of Rifle for unreported reasons, and issued court summonses to Jonathon A. Sanchez, 18, of Rifle for alleged possession of marijuana; to Joseph Baeza Jimenez, 18, of Glenwood Springs, for possession of drug paraphernalia; and Shane K. E. Roberts, 18, of Rifle was taken to jail on a charge of violating a restraining order.
Felony menacing: At 57 minutes past midnight on Jan. 20, deputies were dispatched to 854 W. Battlement Parkway in Battlement Mesa on a report of an incident involving a gun. William Adonis Golden, 18, of Parachute, was arrested and jailed on charges of aggravated menacing with a gun, false imprisonment, prohibited use of weapons, child abuse and underage drinking.
