Grizzlies sweep away the competition at The Cave

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - The Glenwood Grizzlies Midget Minor team completed a sweep during three home games this past weekend and broke out of the cellar in the CDCC league. It started with a 7-2 win over the visiting Boulder Bison.

With a rowdy Friday night crowd cheering on the team, the top line of junior Jackson Wilson and sophomores Sam Carmer and Chaz Apostolik produced all of the evening's goals. Wilson scored four, Carmer two and Apostolik one, while freshman goalie Jake Fegan stopped 24 shots by the Bison.

"Our team really looked good for the home crowd on Friday night," said Assistant Coach Bryan Gonzales. "It's great to have such amazing support from the local community."

On Saturday, the Grizzlies hosted the first of two games against the visiting Heritage High School team from Littleton. They won handily 9-4, with additional goal production from sophomores Roger Gauthier and Steele Featherstone and Junior Tias Dacuma. Sophomore goalie Schyler Stratton had 19 saves in a warm afternoon at The Cave.

On Sunday morning, the Grizzlies faced Heritage High School for the second time in two days and again came out on top, with a 5-1 win. Scoring for the Grizzlies were Wilson, Carmer and Dacuma.

After this weekend's trio of victories, the Grizzlies saw three of their players make the Top 25 list for point leaders in the CDCC. Jackson Wilson is now in first place, overtaking several players from the top-ranked Arapahoe and Littleton teams.

"The team has been making great strides towards our goal of making the CDCC playoffs," said Head Coach Tim Cota. "Special kudos go to Roger Gauthier for his outstanding team play over the weekend."

Glenwood returns to The Cave at the Glenwood Recreation Center again this weekend for two games against DU on Saturday morning at 8:45 a.m., and on Saturday afternoon at 1:45 p.m. against Northern Colorado Youth Hockey.
