Drug dealing 'ringleader' facing three cases

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - Evance Grandberry, the Carbondale man accused of being the leader of a drug dealing ring, has gotten a judge to reduce his bond in one of the three cases against him.

But he remains in the Garfield County Jail in lieu of $155,000 bond.

"He hasn't got any money," said his defense attorney, Kathy Goudy of Carbondale, on Wednesday.

Grandberry, 22, of Carbondale, faces three separate cases filed by former District Attorney Martin Beeson, in the wake of a Dec. 12, 2012, roundup of alleged dealers by authorities working throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.

Grandberry is accused of selling cocaine and MDMA (also known as ecstasy) to undercover agents of the Two Rivers Drug Enforcement Team (TRIDENT) during a nine-month drug enforcement investigation last year.

He also is charged with possession with intent to distribute Lorazepam, a sedative also known as Ativan, and two other prescription drugs allegedly found in a safe in Grandberry's room in a home on Lincoln Avenue in Carbondale.

A third case is a charge of violating conditions of his probation in a 2009 drug prosecution, in which he pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, in return for dismissal of four other charges.

Grandberry's bond initially was $250,000, but that was reduced to $155,000 at a bond reduction hearing on Jan. 17, Goudy said.

That total includes a $100,000 bond in the cocaine and MDMA case, a $50,000 bond in the Ativan case, and a $5,000 bond in the probation case, according to records at the Garfield County Jail.

Grandberry is due in court again on Feb. 7 for further proceedings against him.
