Mesa County's top 5 places to watch the Super Bowl

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - If you don't have plans, it's time to make some. The 47th NFL Super Bowl is fast approaching (duh, it's this Sunday, Feb. 3)! Kickoff between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans starts at 4:30 p.m. MST, with plenty of pre-game coverage beforehand.

Rather celebrate the fun at your neighborhood sports bar? Here are GJFP's top five places to eat, drink (but don't drive) and be merry this Sunday.

Both Fly'n Roosters locations (200 W. Grand Ave., GJ and 569 32 Road, Clifton) will be bumpin' Super Bowl Sunday, with wing specials (order 50 wings and receive a half-priced appetizer, or order 30 wings and a large side for $22) throughout the day (in-house or to-go). Hours for both restaurants are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and there are five TVs at each location.

Also for in-house or to-go: Order 50 wing and 100 wing, you will receive $2 off if you pick just two flavors.

Want to order wings or other tasty treats for your Super Bowl party at home? Call in advance to reserve a variety of wing flavors for your party; wings are made fresh to order, and are scheduled for pick-up.

Don't miss the fun at End Zone Sports Bar (152 S. Mesa St., Fruita). There will be free beer for all starting a half-hour before game time and lasting until the first point is scored. There will also be a raffle; everyone who walks through the door will get a ticket. Plus, $5 appetizers will be available and happy hour drink specials will go until 6 p.m. (where all domestics are $2.50). The End Zone will be open from 11 a.m. until approximately midnight, and the sports bar boasts of 13 TVs.

Boston's, at 2404 F Road, has lots of celebratory plans for Sunday's big game and its hours are set from 11 a.m. to midnight. Football specials - like domestic drafts for $2.25 a pint and pizza for $3.25 - will be in place, and patrons may enjoy 20 televisions (13 are in the bar alone, and there are five 80-inch HD TVs, too).

Old Chicago, at 120 North Ave., will host a variety of specials on Sunday, Feb. 3 - a 70-cent wing deal, plus other pizza and wing combo specials. Drink specials include 25-oz. Bud and Coors Lite for $4, plus there will be shot specials for the fans. The restaurant and bar will be open from 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., and there are 12 TVs at this Grand Junction location.

"The guys from Anheuser-Busch will be here giving away prizes," an Old Chicago staffer added.

Wrigley Field, at 1810 North Ave., is throwing a Super Bowl Party Sunday. Steak and drink specials are planned, plus folks from Budweiser will be there. Wrigley is open from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday, and it boasts 22 TVs to watch the game.
