PALISADE, Colorado (AP) - A Colorado Springs police sergeant has been named the new police chief in Palisade.

Town Administrator Rich Sales says Tony Erickson is expected to take over his new post at the beginning of April.

The Daily Sentinel reports Erickson grew up in rural Michigan and currently runs cows on a ranch in Simla. His law-enforcement career spans more than 30 years with the Colorado Springs and Castle Rock departments.

The Roaring Fork Conservancy will hold a riverside cross country ski outing on Feb. 19 near Aspen and a Feb. 21 moonlight walk on snowshoes in Emma.

The ski event, hosted with Aspen Parks and Open Space, takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. on the Rio Grande Trail, starting at Stein Park. The tour covers about 2.5 miles, focusing on the importance of the riparian ecosystem and offering a chance to enjoy a winter evening.

The snowshoe tour, also from 5 to 7 p.m., is underwritten by Pitkin County Open Space and Trails. Participants will explore the 74-acre Emma Open Space in the moonlight.

Both events are guided. They are free, but registration is required at www.roaringfork.org/events. Call 970-927-1290 for more information.
