On Feb. 14, from noon to 1:30 p.m., Carbondale will join with activists around the world for ONE BILLION RISING, the largest day of action in the history of V-Day, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls.

Carbondale Community Rising is a free community dance and ritual event co-facilitated by Robyn Hubbard, Kat Diamond, Jayne Gottlieb and Sonny Conley at the Third Street Center in Carbondale from noon to 1:30 p.m. Donations will be gratefully accepted for Advocate Safehouse. Women and men are encouraged to attend. No dance experience is necessary.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education for the Office of Vocational and Adult Education Brenda Dann-Messier will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming symposium "Cradle to Career - Building Youth Success from Aspen to Parachute."

The event is open to the public, and includes a host of nationally renowned speakers who will address the challenges and issues associated with successfully supporting the education and success of this region's youth. It is the latest step in the months-long collaboration of educational and community leaders to identify ways to better support children and teens living between Aspen to Parachute.

The symposium will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Doerr-Hosier Building at the Aspen Institute. Tickets are $25 and include both breakfast and lunch. For more information logon to aspencommunityfoundation.org or call 970-925-9300.

State Sen. Gail Schwartz, D-Snowmass Village, and State Rep. Millie Hamner, D-Dillon, in connection with the Education Foundation of Eagle County, will co-host a "town hall" meeting to discuss education on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Basalt Regional Library, 14 Midland Ave. in Basalt.

The two legislators will be joined by a representative of the Education Foundation of Eagle County, and the foundation's Year Of The Student program.

The meeting is to be held from 9:30-11 a.m., and the public is invited.
