The Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association officially honored Roaring Fork Valley solar energy legend Johnny Weiss with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Weiss co-founded Solar Energy International in 1991. He is a solar educator, consultant, certified industrial trainer and solar building professional. He has more than 20 years experience teaching the practical applications of the renewable energy technologies of solar, wind and water power. As an associate professor for 10 years at the Colorado Mountain College, he helped develop and teach a hands-on vocational training program in solar thermal, photovoltaics, energy efficiency and construction skills. Weiss has extensive practical experience as a natural house builder and licensed general contractor. He is knowledgeable in the environmental building technologies of earth and straw bale construction. Weiss regularly works with Native Americans RE training programs. Weiss works in international sustainable development programs and projects helping transfer renewable energy technologies to the developing world. He currently serves as a consultant for Solar Energy International, and is helping develop SEI's Alumni and Friends Association.

Proud big sisters Sami Sue and Becca would like to announce the birth of their new sister, Makenzie Raye Williams. She was welcomed into the world at 11:40 a.m. Dec. 15, 2012. She weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 183⁄4 inches long at birth. Proud parents are Shelby and Greg Williams of Rifle. Grandparents are Steve and JaNaye Williams of Silt, Chris Stambaugh of Carbondale, Don Wood of Denver. Great-grandmothers are Laura Bair of Carbondale, Joan Morse of Glenwood Springs, Pinki Wood of Denver and Patsy Dixon of Denver.

Lee and Vola Mercer of Silt are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jasilee Michelle Cristman, to Jerratt Edward Cook, the son of Shirley Bair of Paonia and Trent and Holly Cook of New Castle. The couple met as sophomores in high school and remained friends until they began dating in 2005. Jerratt is the owner of Jerratt Sheet Metal in Basalt, while Jasilee works at Neil-Garing Insurance in Glenwood Springs.The happy couple plan to wed in Carbondale in August 2013.
