The Winter ArtFest is a free one-day event to showcase creative artwork by artists in and around Grand Junction. Traditional, 2D/3D, abstract and contemporary works are on display and for sale to highlight the breadth and scope of professional artists, gifted students and emerging artists. The event is set for Thursday, Feb. 28, 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Two Rivers Winery Chateau. There will be a silent auction to raise money for the summer school-to-work program that gives job training to high school and Colorado Mesa University students. Of the exhibits is a collaboration with the Center for Independence (CFI) which offers its clients with disabilities the opportunity to become active creative artists. See their photography at the event. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from sales of their work will go back to CFI to promote more art workshops. There will also be pieces by local art teachers and their gifted students. New work includes fine art and fine crafts such as sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, glass, fiber, drawing, painting, and batik to give visitors an aesthetic experience paired with splendid wines grown in the vineyards around the chateau. The goal of this event is to incubate the continual growth of the arts and individual artists and to promote their work as an economic development project. For more information, visit artspacecolorado.org. A slide show on the website features specific work of participating artists to see at the event.
