FENSKE: Madrid, N.M., a former ghost town now 'consciously evolved'

"Fortunately art is a community effort - a small, select community living in a spiritualized world endeavor to interpret the wars and the solitude of flesh." - Allen GinsbergI went on a little road trip with a friend along the Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway just south of Santa Fe, N.M. About midway through our Saturday adventure we came to a small village of about 400 residents called Madrid. I was quickly reprimanded by my friend that it is pronounced with the accent on the first syllable: MAD-rid not Ma-Drid!This historic and picturesque small town is apparently a haven for day-trippers like us who stop to find out more about this small piece of heaven nestled on the northeast side of the Sandia Mountains. When we arrived I was immediately drawn in by the mystique and intrigue of the colorful main street, not to mention some of the street signs such as, "Camino No Se" and "Peaceful Way."After we parked we began our exploration of the town. I was taken aback by the energy prevalent there. It felt as though I had literally entered another dimension. This dimension carried a frequency of other-worldliness with all the creativity, kindness, cooperation, support of one another, and sense of "community living in a spiritualized world."Most everyone residing in Madrid is an artist of some kind - a painter, a sculptor, a writer, a designer and builder of works of art, a jeweler, or any other sort of creative endeavor. And as far as I could intuit, everyone was extremely supportive of everyone else in each pursuit of a creative livelihood. In the community of Madrid it seems that the words of Piet Mondrian, "Art and life are not separate domains" is a living truth.Spending the afternoon sauntering down the lively streets and enjoying the dozens of galleries owned by the residents was like a trip back in time as well as a trip back to the future. The love energy present in all the artisans and residents brought back memories for me of the "peace-love-and-rock-n-roll" that was pervasive in the '60s, which I savored then, and do still today. And it brought me to the present time of the birthing of a new humanity for the future of humankind in which we consciously choose to embody those qualities of love, joy, community, service, creativity and peace. It seems the people of Madrid understand the concept of conscious evolution and the emerging possibility of sustainability in our world because they are co-creating just that in their village. Everything there is built on the foundation of cooperation, a big tenet of conscious evolution. The Madroids, as they are lovingly referred to, embody the qualities of the Essential Self - love, joy, unity, care for Mother Earth, cooperation, peace, awareness, creativity and co-creation. They seem to have an understanding of moving from ego to essence. They live by the creative impulse residing within them. They model for us a new way of being. The time spent in Madrid was so magical and inspiring that I didn't want to leave. And yet I know I will go back, many times. It might be a worthwhile "Bucket List" item for you to ink in to experience some day. What a great way to witness the new evolution, conscious evolution firsthand! I encourage you to find ways this week in which you experience the qualities of community, love, joy, compassion and peace.
