Raw Canvas artists in Grand Junction have a lot of ... CLOUT

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A tattoo shop and a fine-art gallery? It takes creativity and strength to think outside the box. And to celebrate "CLOUT: A Spring Show" in all its glory, the Raw Canvas Custom Tattoo Studio and Art Gallery will kick off an all-new art exhibit with an opening tonight (Friday, March 1). The party will run from 6:30-10 p.m. at 507 Main St.

"Don't be afraid!" Raw Canvas gallery manager and fine artist Wendy Gill said. "Sometimes people are intimidated by tattoo shops and they don't come in to see the art because of that."

"The talent (on display) is amazing," she added.

Musical guest, Miss Emily, will also perform. Plus, food from Bin707 Foodbar and wine from Grande River Vineyards will be provided.

"This show's theme is clout, and we left it up to the artists to interpret what that means," Gill said. "It's a twist on strength, respect and even money. There's a million interpretations of that word."

According to Gill, CLOUT art will span a variety of applications, too - from prints, sculpture and photography to jewelry, collage and paintings.

"There's even glass etching," she said.

If you can't make the art opening, pieces from CLOUT will be on display through April 24.

"We will change out our work the night of the 24th for our show in May," contributing local artist Kelly Robison said.

The Raw Canvas art gallery is managed as a co-op, and all artists are local. Art, along with prints, will be for sale. Artist openings at the Raw Canvas are always held in conjunction with Grand Junction's ever-popular First Friday Art Walk.
