The New Castle Recreation Department is offering a Fly Fishing 101 clinic on Saturday, March 30, followed by Fly Fishing 102 on Saturday, April 13. The 101 clinic will be held at the New Castle Community Center beginning at 1 p.m., and 102 will take place at Grand River Park, also at 1 p.m.
Fly Fishing 101 will teach the basics of proper casting, along with entomology, equipment, knots and more. Fly Fishing 102 will have participants practicing the skills learned in the 101 clinic, along with learning where fish live and feed, with hands-on instruction taking place along the Colorado River.
The clinics will be hosted by local fishing guide John Harcourt, and are $25 each, or $40 for both, and space is limited. Main Street.
A wilderness first aid course will be held March 23-24 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Aspen Firehouse in the Aspen Business Center. Offered by the Colorado Mountain Club, this course follows a standardized program through the Emergency Care and Safety Institute and consists of 8 hours of lectures, 8 hours of practical training, practice scenarios and a written test. A comprehensive textbook is included in the fee. Lectures and practical scenarios including trip leadership information.
