Joe Sos

Joe, loving dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. The youngest of 13 siblings, he was born in Sharples, WV, to Hungarian immigrants.He met his future wife, Dorothy Toler, at the local mining company grocery store.On July 15, 1946, they drove to Pikeville, KY, purchased a marriage license for $2, and after a two-hour waiting period, they were husband and wife.Joe's lifelong career was mining. He worked in various mines and eventually retired from Mid-Continent Coal & Coke in 1987.After retirement, he enjoyed bowling, soaking in the Hot Springs Pool, and was an avid reader. In addition, he was a devoted member of the Rifle Masons Lodge #129 and became a Shriner member in 2007. He also served as a Silt Trustee for several years. He dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandbabies.If you ever crossed paths with Joe, you knew he was a character and always had a good joke to share.He was preceded in death by his parents, 12 older siblings and son-in-law, John Cerise.He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter Linda Cerise of New Castle; son Michael Sos (Karen) of Glenwood Springs, 5 granddaughters, 5 great-grandsons and a great-grandbaby on the way!The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at Grand River Hospital for their loving care and support.Joe requested no services.
