PARACHUTE, Colorado - Ashlynn Speakman and Kyra Chenoweth each scored a pair of goals for the Grand Valley High School girls soccer team, who jumped in front early and went on to beat Moffat County 6-0 Wednesday afternoon.
Speakman scored in the first minute to put the Cardinals (2-0-0) ahead for good, then assisted Lauren Paskett on a goal in the 33rd minute. Reagan Cyphers' goal in the 50th minute staked the Cardinals to a 4-0 cushion, and Chenoweth added a penalty kick goal - her second goal of the match - one minute later.
Speakman capped the scoring in th 73rd minute off a pass from Tarianna Lawrence. Erin Schuckers (seven saves) and Desi McGee (two saves) combined on the shutout.
"Overall, I am very pleased with the effort," Grand Valley coach Eric Sarno said. "We kept the ball and created numerous scoring chances. It was a solid-team effort and a good team win. It's another step in the right direction."
EDWARDS, Colorado - Battle Mountain's girls soccer team beat Rifle 12-0 on Wednesday. The Bears are off until April 2 when they host Glenwood Springs.
