The Rat Bike Face, a community race down a snowy Sunlight Mountain circuit, will be held Saturday during Spring Thing at Sunlight Mountain. The race will be put on by the Gear Exchange as the second race in the Tour DeFiance Series. Registration is $20 and begins at 3:30 p.m. A kids race will commence at 4 p.m., with the Rat Bike race following at 4:30 p.m. Proceeds will go to Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers, and costumes are encouraged.Volunteers are needed for the event.Info: Steve-Z Novy, (970) 309-2023, or http://thegearexchange.blogspot.com/

The first running of Western Colorado Girls on the Run will be held at 9 a.m. April 20 at Two Rivers Park.The 5K benefit run is a running/esteem-building program for girls in elementary school and middle school and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), which is a program providing volunteers for children in dependency and neglect proceedings in local courts. The course begins at Two Rivers Park, runs along the Roaring Fork River bike path and loops back to the park.Registration is $20 and begins at 7:30 a.m. the day of the race. A charity run to benefit the middle schools in Parachute and Battlement Mesa will be held April 20.The Move It, Move It Family 5K Fun Run will be held at 10 a.m. at Grand Valley Middle School. The run is open to all ages, and race fees will go toward funding supplies for the Center of Family Learning movement program.A race shirt is guaranteed for all registrations which are received by today. Pre-race registration is $15, and race-day registration - which begins at 9:15 a.m. - is $20. Pre-registered teams of four will be $40. The PRO-TKD Martial Arts Center in Carbondale will bring in a world-renowned instructor to teach a Kimoodo Healing Art Seminar from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. on March 29 at the site of the center, 1079 Highway 133 in Carbondale.The session will be taught by Grandmaster Joon P. Choi, a 9th-degree black belt in Taekwondo and the founder and president of the Kimoodo & Oriental Martial Arts College in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.According to Master Doug Fuechsel of the Martial Arts Center: "Kimoodo is a holistic healing art that uses the bodies Ki energy merged with the dynamics of Martial Arts. Kimoodo is based on the same principles as Tai Chi and Qigong. The three great powers of Kimoodo - power breathing, power stretching and power mind - harness the 'life energies' to balance the mind, body, spirit and emotions resulting in better quality of life and greater longevity."Cost is $40 for the seminar, which will focus on the above criteria. The Glenwood Defiance Rugby Club, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, will host a "Meet the Coach" session at the Eagle's Club, 312 7th Street in Glenwood Springs.The session will run from 5 to 7 p.m. on April 6. A rookie camp for those interested for playing for the Glenwood Defiance Rugby Club in the summer will be held on April 20 and 27.The rookie camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. The New Castle Recreation Department is offering a Fly Fishing 101 clinic at 1 p.m. on March 30, followed by Fly Fishing 102 on at 1 p.m. April 13. The 101 clinic will be held at the New Castle Community Center, and 102 will take place at Grand River Park. The clinics will be hosted by local fishing guide John Harcourt, and are $25 each, or $40 for both, and space is limited. The New Castle Recreation Department is offering an adult coed 8-on-8 soccer league which will run Sunday afternoons beginning April 14.League play is scheduled for early June, and coed rules require a minimum of three females be on the field at all times.League fees are $350 per team or $45 for individuals. New Castle Recreation is offering a spring Challenge Volleyball League for adults Tuesday evenings starting April 2.All registration is individual and teams will be formed randomly each week. Competitors will compete in a variety of formats that may include doubles, triples, quads and sixes play. Each individual will receive points based on their weekly results. and the top point earners will receive special awards at the end of the league.Registration fees are $20 for the six-week league, or $5 per player at the door.Information: (970) 984-3352.
