"Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of spring?" - Neltja BlanchanAs I sit down to write this article I have just returned from an afternoon walk feasting my senses on the quickening season. Ah, spring ... do you feel it? I love the feeling of spring in the air. It brings with it such an awakening of all the senses, even beyond the five senses. Everything is being reborn, coming back to life after a long winter of deep reflection and hibernation.Colors appear more vivid, the breeze is a little warmer, the melodic chirping of the birds has returned to fill the air with sweet music and the cycle of nature continues. I see the crocus pushing through the soil soon to present their splendid array of color, coyotes dashing across the fields, the evergreens getting greener, bunnies hopping about to and fro, all to the rhythm of life. And I think to myself, what a miraculous world we live in.I sit in awe of how effortless nature seems to continue and evolve. There is no thought for the crocus that it's time to start pushing and struggling to emerge from under the hard earth, it just does. The evergreens don't sit around and think, "Hey, it's time to green up," they just do. Nature follows a natural cycle that is reliable and consistent without efforting. It gives us an excellent blueprint to follow if we choose to.Imagine what your life could be like if you let go of resistance and just accepted what is. Imagine if you could step into the natural flow of life and follow the promptings of your intuitive Authentic Self knowing that you will be supported always in all ways. Imagine blooming where you are planted and trusting you are always in exactly the right place at the right time. Even if it may not look like what you had hoped for at the moment, imagine having the faith that you are in that place for a reason and everything is unfolding in your life just as it is meant to.What do you think it would be like to trust in the process of life like that? It would really be challenging to your faith and a little scary wouldn't it? Think about this: What impulse is beating your heart? What impulse is breathing for you? You don't consciously beat your own heart and usually don't consciously breathe. Something is doing that for you and at some level you trust that your heart will continue beating and you will continue to breathe. This same impulse, the Divine Impulse or the Evolutionary Impulse, the creative Mind of God is responsible for all of this and has been for 14 billion years! And that Impulse resides within you! Nature trusts this impulse without thought and continues to evolve without much effort. The deep roots of the crocus or the hibernating animals never doubt that spring will follow winter and life within will burst out in all its glory. In the words of Rainer Maria Rilke, "It's spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart." The earth trusts the process.I encourage you this week as you welcome spring in your own way to observe through evolutionary eyes and take in the awe of the loyal, unfettered Impulse. Try relaxing and trusting more. Remember that this Divine Impulse resides within you and has since before time began. Immerse all of your senses in the "fragrance of the very breath of spring."Catherine Fenske is the owner of Live With Intention Coaching.
