Harper, Musselwhite added to June's Jazz Aspen festival lineup

Jazz Aspen Snowmass has revealed the full lineup for its 23rd annual June Festival, adding Grammy-winning blues-rock singer Ben Harper and renowned blues harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite.

Another addition is the 11-piece Tedeschi Trucks Band, led by the husband-and-wife team of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. They will perform with special guest Naturally 7.

The festival is set for June 21 through 23 at the Benedict Music Tent in Aspen. Harper and Musselwhite are scheduled for June 22. The Tedeschi Trucks Band will perform June 23.

The nonprofit organization previously announced that Jackson Browne will be a headliner for the June event. The politically active artist has written many hit songs, including "Doctor My Eyes," "Running on Empty," "Somebody's Baby" and "Lawyers in Love." He is closely associated with the California music scene of the early to mid-1970s that produced The Eagles. He plays June 21.

Harper recently teamed with Musselwhite on the blues album "Get Up!" Musselwhite, one of the few white musicians to gain exposure in the blues scene of the 1960s, was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2010. He and Harper recorded the song "Burnin' Hell" together in 1997 and subsequently were encouraged to team up for a full album. "Get Up!" showcases the musical chemistry that's developed between the two over the years.

In 2011, the Tedeschi Trucks Band debuted with the album "Revelator." In 2012, the band won a Grammy for best blues album, while Trucks and bandmate Oteil Burbridge were honored with lifetime Grammys for their membership in the Allman Brothers Band.

Jazz Aspen also announced that it will expand its lawn party on the grounds beside the Benedict Music Tent. The free party will feature two side stages and food booths and starts at 6 p.m. on each day of the festival. Two bands will perform nightly, including Cuban-born Pablo Menendez "Mezcla" and rising world-fusion star TIZER.

The extended June Festival will include a show by the modern jazz ensemble Pink Martini on July 6 at the music tent.

The JAS Cafe Downstairs @ the Nell series, running from late June through mid-August, will feature jazz acts including New Orleans keyboardist Jon Cleary, the Cuban big band Wil Campa y Su Gran Union and singer-guitarist Raul Midon.

Tickets for Jazz Aspen's June festival, as well as its Labor Day festival, can be purchased at 866-JAS-TIXX, or the Belly Up box office.
