GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Loree's Seafood and Steakhouse is truly a family affair - Momma Sue, daughters and sons, aunts and uncles, boyfriends, and even the grandpa worked hard to open historic Main Street's newest restaurant. Located at Dolce Vita's old spot, 336 Main St., Loree's now serves breakfast (Saturday and Sunday only), lunch and dinner."Loree is a family name," Laurie Hamon said of the restaurant's chosen moniker. "It's a middle name used across four generations."Laurie is the daughter of Sue Hamon, the owner of both Loree's and the established Garfield's Restaurant & Pub, located at 2148 Broadway. Her mom, Sue, started working at Garfield's the year it opened in 1986, Laurie added. Sue bought Garfield's last May, and family members and extended family now work at both restaurants.Loree's menu is similar to Garfield's, with some key differences -the bar menu and an expanded lunch menu. And, like Garfield's, Loree's is meant to be a place for folks to celebrate special occasions."We're really excited to be open and a part of the community on Main Street," another family member, Lorena (pronounced 'Loree-na') Gambill-Maddox, said. The new restaurant is set up similarly to the old Dolce Vita (which recently closed), in that it has indoor and outdoor seating, a bar area, a large dining room and an atrium. The restaurant has been freshened and renovated, too."The atrium can be used for big parties, company dinners and prom," Laurie noted.A grand opening celebration will be scheduled after Loree's receives its liquor license (which is still pending and will likely be approved in the first week of April).Once the liquor license is in place, Laurie said she hopes the bar and restaurant will become a popular weekend hangout for a young, late-night crowd."We're going to try that out," she said.
